Hello everyone, my name is William “Bill” Smithers, a bonafide tobacco enthusiast, and industry expert. I am thrilled to share with you my love for this leaf, and my insights on the tobacco industry.
I cut my teeth in the business with the famous British American Tobacco Company. A twenty-year journey there saw me rise from a humble Leaf Buyer to Senior Vice President of Quality Assurance. I then crossed the pond to work with the American giant, Philip Morris International. Here, my years of experience and passion for quality saw me excel as the Director of Blend Creation.
My work in the industry hasn’t gone unnoticed. I was awarded the prestigious ‘Golden Leaf Award’ in 2019 for my exceptional contribution to tobacco production. This was followed by the ‘Tobacco Industry Innovator’ award in 2021 for my pioneering work in creating new blends.
Over the years, I have been instrumental in developing some of the most popular cigarette brands in the market. Furthermore, my contributions to the field of sustainable tobacco farming have led to groundbreaking changes in the industry’s approach to environmental responsibility.
I currently reside in North Carolina, USA, fondly known as the Tobacco Road for its rich history and enduring connection with the tobacco industry. It’s a charming place, where the old-world charm of tobacco farms blends seamlessly with the hustle and bustle of modern industry.
When I’m not discussing tobacco grades or developing new blends, you can find me hiking in the beautiful Appalachian trails or taking in a local bluegrass music festival. I also have a soft spot for woodworking – there’s nothing like the smell of fresh-cut timber to complement a good tobacco leaf.
